Gary Gilhaus

Facilities Director

Hi Church, my name is Gary Gilhaus. I make sure our facilities are working properly by performing minor repairs. I collaborate with Trustees to hire contractors for major repairs or improvements. I also supervise our cleaning teams so that our facilities have a refreshing, welcoming atmosphere. My position is behind the scenes, yet I treat it as an important ministry.

I am self-taught in my field, and I have always enjoyed repairing things at home, and for friends. In the summers of 1982 and 1983 I worked Maintenance at Epworth Among the Hills, Arcadia MO, a Methodist church camp. In 1985 I completed five years at SEMO, Art major, Earth Science minor. 1988 to 2000 I worked at Stark Manufacturing, Charleston MO, changing over machine tooling, later drafting in the Quality Dept., finally in-job trained for programming and operating CNC mills.

In 1964 my family moved to Cape and Chose Centenary when I was two. My church involvement is helping with the Wednesday Community Meals, singing in the choir, and singing solos. I did the Walk to Emmaus Men’s Walk #53. I also enjoy working with the video cameras for worship services whenever the Audio Video Team is shorthanded. Since becoming Centenary staff member, it has been easier to be involved in church events that I would not have been previously.

I enjoy working on classic air-cooled Volkswagens. I have a 1963 Beetle, and I collect Volkswagen and automotive memorabilia. Proverbs 17: 27-28, “The one who has knowledge restrains his words, and one who keeps a cool head is a person of understanding. Even a fool is considered wise when he keeps silent – discerning, when he seals his lips.” CSB

My vision is to make improvements to our facilities while maintaining its heritage and continuing its legacy.
