Centenary Spotlight: Mike Dumey
On this week’s Centenary Spotlight, we are highlighting the work of our Director of Worship and Music, Mike Dumey. Mike has been with Centenary for the last fifteen years directing our Worship Team.
Our Worship Team consists of our choir as well as our talented musicians, including our Worship Director Brodrick Twiggs and our Organist Beverly Reece. Every Wednesday night our Worship Team diligently rehearses all songs we will use to praise God Sunday morning. Mike also assists with the order of events every Sunday, along with Brodrick Twiggs and our Senior Pastor Carl Palmer, like choosing hymns and liturgists. Mike is also in charge of our yearly Christmas and Easter Cantatas, which are a fantastic service of musical worship and praise. He works with the Worship Team and the Tech Team months in advance to put on the best service of praise he can. He also does multiple seasonal events every year, like our Valentine’s Day show “An Evening of Love.”
Mike is very skilled and experienced as a worship music director. Since the age of seventeen, he has been leading musical worship for the last 49 years, with his 50th anniversary coming up in September. After retiring from Grace Methodist Church after 30 years, Mike came on to help with the Choir here at Centenary “only for a little while” while in the search for a new Music Director. Fifteen years later, he feels Centenary is his new home. “The reason I have stayed is because I find the job so rewarding, and the church family so amazing.” Mike is grateful for the many volunteers in our Worship Team that donate their skills and time to lift up God and His Word.
If you want to be a part of our Worship Team as a singer or musician, don’t hesitate to reach out! Centenary has a place for you. If interested, please call the church office, or email Mike Dumey at dumeym@gmail.com. If you are also interested in being a liturgist, please reach out to Mike as well. Thank you!
