Centenary Spotlight: Scott and Susan McClanahan
This week’s Centenary Spotlight is on Scott and Susan McClanahan, Head Usher and Hostess for Sunday mornings, among many other things. Scott and Susan have been members of Centenary since 2007.
Scott is our Head Usher, the Strategic Leadership Chair of the Administrative Council, and the Vice Chair of the Nominations Committee. He is also a member of the Wednesday Morning Men’s Small Group. Last but not least, he is the leader of the Sojourners Sunday School class.
As Head Usher, Scott schedules the usher teams and oversees the 26 ushers and greeters that volunteer on Sundays. Ushers not only hand you the bulletin every Sunday, but it is their job to make you feel welcome at Centenary. The ushers have meaningful conversation with both guests and returning members, and they are also there to answer any questions you may have about the church and direct people to wherever they need to go. Ushers are not only there to greet you, but they are also in charge of anything that needs to be done in front-of-house. As the leader of the Sojourners Sunday School class, Scott presents the lesson and leads the class discussion of the material. Their class material is Bible-based applications to everyday life that helps develop a Christian understanding of life.
Susan serves as a hostess with the usher team greeting people before they enter the sanctuary as well as identifying and welcoming guests. She is also the Secretary for the Sojourners Sunday School and is the one who sends the weekly Sojourners email. She is also the Secretary for the Administrative Council. Susan is also a member of the Women’s Bible Study. One unique thing that Susan does is writes letters to all first-time guests of Centenary. This is a sentiment that can be a huge impact on someone looking for a Church Home. These letters are just one small example of the amazing job that our ushers do to make every member of Centenary feel welcome.
Thank you to Scott and Susan as well as all of our ushers and greeters for all you do!
